Job Title: Entry Level Caregiver
Reports To: Center Director
Status: Level III (Non-Exempt)
Description:
Tending to the daily needs of the children while following the provided activities schedule.
Qualifications/Requirements:
A successful Entry Level Caregiver must be able to adequately perform each essential duty, and have the following education and experience:
- A Child-Care Staff Member must be at least eighteen years of age, and shall have at least a high school education or shall have completed a training program approved by the state department of human services or the state board of education. OR
- A Child-Care Staff Member may be less than eighteen years of age if he/she is a graduate of a two-year vocational child-care training program approved by the state board of education. There shall be on file at the center for review by the Director evidence to verify the child-care staff member’s graduation from the approved program. Evidence shall be:
- A copy of a diploma or transcript of a vocational program curriculum recognized by the state board of education as evidence of graduation from an approved vocational child-care training program; OR
- A copy of other written evidence accepted by the Director as evidence of graduation from an approved vocational child-care training program.
- A Child-Care Staff Member may be less than eighteen years of age and shall be exempt from the educational requirements of this rule if he is a student enrolled in the second year of a vocational child-care training program that leads to high school graduation and is approved by the state board of education.
- A High School Diploma or a General Educational Development certificate; AND
- Less than one (1) year of experience in a licensed child care center; AND
- Completion of any in-service training requirements in child development or early childhood education; child abuse recognition and prevention; first aid; and in prevention, recognition and management of communicable diseases
- Be of good moral character.
- Must agree to enroll in a CDA or AA/BA program for ECE or a related field within 6 months of employment.
Essential Duties:
- Ensures that the children are supervised at ALL times.
- Acts as a liaison between the children and parents addressing problems and answering questions regarding the children.
- Creates a stimulating environment for the child by conducting developmentally appropriate activities.
- Interacts with and provides guidance and care to all children within the center.
- Changes diapers and/or assists children with their toilet needs while adhering to hand washing procedures.
- Greets each child and parent upon arrival at the center.
- Encourages classroom participation and positive interaction with other children.
- Redirects undesirable behavior to promote positive socialization.
- Responds to children’s verbal and nonverbal indications of need and/or requests.
- Conducts oneself and represents Brightside Academy in a positive manner which includes showing respect for co-workers, parents and superiors.
- Understands the chain of command and accepts criticism and suggestions as an opportunity to improve.
- Ensures appropriate set-up and shut-down of classroom on a daily basis.
- Provides exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
