Brightside Academy to Build Local Food Market Program with The Food Trust

HARRISBURG (May 25, 2016) – School administrators of Brightside Academy’s Philadelphia team met in Harrisburg at the end May for a statewide farm-to-school conference hosted by The Food Trust Company. This conference brought together over 40 organizations including non-profits together to discuss a new initiative to incorporate better, nutritional food to high poverty areas.

The Food Trust, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization, focuses its mission on providing affordable food and nutrition education to families in need across the Philadelphia region. Since building a partnership with The Food Trust years earlier, Ed Koch, School Administrator and Pre-K Counts Coordinator for Brightside Academy and team member, Joanna Hor were asked to attend the conference to discuss becoming “the first and only early education provider to be a part of their food program,” according to Koch.

“This program would be all encompassing,” said Koch. “It would involve taking trips to local farms, having advocates come in and speak about nutrition, and give families of poverty access to local food markets that is within their means.”

Brightside Academy has plans to meet with The Food Trust soon to discuss their future partnership and initiatives that will be rolled out to both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh academies.

Brightside Academy is proud to partner with these organizations to provide nutritional and educational services that strengthen the Philadelphia community. Families who are interested in enrolling their children to Brightside Academy can contact the company at 1-877-868-2273, visit brightsideacademy.com, or stop by a local academy for more information.
