Brightside Academy Celebrates Pittsburgh’s Bicentennial & East Liberty Grand Re-Opening
PITTSBURGH (July 9, 2016) – The city of Pittsburgh celebrated its 200th anniversary this weekend with a press conference on Friday, and a parade through downtown Saturday morning followed by fireworks and concerts in the evening. The parade hosted the biggest group Pittsburgh has ever seen, 200 organizations, including Brightside Academy. Teachers and Academy Management who attended brought their children with them to help passing out candy as they walked in the parade.
“There was a great turnout from the community. We enjoyed celebrating Pittsburgh’s history and growth,” said Rebecca Crawford, Marketing Manager at Brightside Academy. “We look forward to participating in other Pittsburgh events in the future.”
With 9 academies in the Pittsburgh area, services over 900 children, and over 230 teachers and staff employed at academies and the corporate office, Brightside Academy prides itself on being rooted in such a wonderful, flourishing city. “When looking for early childhood, many families mainly look at the education of the staff, the safety of the site, and the diversity of the group,” said Jessica Miller, Academy Director at the North Versailles location. “I love my job. I love what I do. I believe that these three things along with dedication and pride will continue to bring Brightside success.”
Brightside Academy sustains relationships with many community partners across the Pittsburgh region including Pittsburgh Public School District, McKeesport School District, and all fire and police departments located near its academies. They offer high-quality programs such as Head Start and Pre-K Counts, and are Keystone STARS accredited.
While the renovation process has recently begun at 3 academies, Brightside celebrates the completion of its structural changes in May at its East Liberty location. The academy which was built in 1996 has needed improvements inside the academy such as new windows and walls that now extend floor to ceiling.
The walls allow the academy to portray a classroom-like setting causing less distraction while the windows provide increased safety and supervision between rooms. This landlord-funded project took 14 months to complete but Academy Director, Raina Kelly said that despite the construction going on during school hours, the team was able to work around it.
Parents also seem to have noticed the new renovations, “They like them! It's different for the parents who left [the academy] and then returned to there being walls.” Continued growth of our academies contributes to further education and development for our Pittsburgh families.
